Decision & Discernment

You just had an amazing time with your friends. You waved goodbye to them with your heart  feeling fulfilled. You're now on your way home, alone. You rewind all the picture-perfect moments that just happened. But as you step on the sidewalk, the mood changes as if you turned a book to its dark pages. You go back to your old life, feeling bothered about your same old problem.

I have decided to have an introduction like that because that's exactly what happens to someone when he's got something heavy on his mind especially when he's got a problem that involves those "should I or should I not?", "This or that", "either-or", "neither, nor" statements.

Decision and decision-making. It is when we choose between two things or more. It is when a girl chooses to wear a red blouse instead of the pink one; It is when the court reaches a certain verdict; It is when a guy decides that he's going to move on because he can't take it anymore; It is when someone tries to choose between his very-supportive-almost-perfect best friend and his "one-of-a-kind" girlfriend.  It is when he decides to go to school even though he is late just so he could pass his finished homework; And it is me choosing my blog over sleep. It is making up your mind. May it be a big deal or not, it's the same thing: from that moment you decided you're going to take a bath to the moment you decided that you are going to change the world.

Discernment. It is judgement. Smart people usually relates it with decision because it is separating something mentally from another or from others. In religion class, it is knowing what's good and bad. What difference would it make if I decide to do this? Or that?

Presently, I have a really big problem with decision and discernment and thought that I could list down ways or some points that would lead me to good decision-making. First ask yourself if it is for the good. Is it for God's greater glory? If yes, then nothing is stopping you. He would even help you with your decision. If not, then what's the point of doing it? Second is if it is for the common good. It is totally different from the first one because we're talking about a certain number of people now. It is Superman choosing between Lois Lane and people inside the bus as he tries to hold the tension. Who would benefit your decision? Of course you have to choose that something wherein you'll be able to help everyone instead of just yourself, unless you are Superman who was able to save both sides because of his superpowers.

Another way is to fold a paper into half and put the word advantages on the top part of the paper on the left side and disadvantages on the other. Now fill it up with the pros and the cons of what's going to happen if you choose something over something. The side that has the most points written prevails. I mean why would you decide to smoke if its only advantage is it calms your nerves?

There are a lot of factors to consider in making a decision. Which makes it hard. But if you think of the decisions make thoroughly it is going to be really worth it. The decisions you make affect what's going to be ahead of you. Also, always think like you're in it for the long run. Try not to be impulsive. (Or at least I should try telling that to myself first.)

Well yeah. My eyes are getting heavy. I've just decided. I'm going to sleep already. Anyway, thank you for reading. Hope you were able to get something. Goodnight.

Adieu.
